Sympathy

Making Sympathy cards today. My only uncle passed away on Monday. This card was inspired by a card I seen on Pinterest. But, I can't find the card now! It had been a while since I'd did much shading and forgot how much I enjoyed it.

Spring/Easter Blocks

Are you like me...so excited Spring is finally here! After the humdrum of winter, I am ready for Spring and all the beautiful colors it brings to us. Needing a little color in my life, I made these blocks just in time for Spring and Easter. They are made to say Spring on one side, turn them over and you have Easter! Pretty nifty, heh?

How can you make your own? You'll need 6 blocks cut in a way pleasing to use. I used walnut stain to stain the blocks. Then using the Cricut to cut the ovals and rounded corner squares, I inked the edges and Mod Podged them onto the blocks. Added a few Springy and Easter stickers and they are done! Enjoy.

Mom's Sewing Basket

This basket has been in my attic close to 6 yrs now. It was placed there not long after my mom's death. It belonged to my mom. We are a family of keepers (that sounds better than hoarders). If we HAD great grandma's false teeth, they'd be displayed proudly on the mantle.

When I asked Don about bringing the basket down I took one look at it and thought, "Worthless." But, I couldn't bring myself to throw it away either. Looking for permission, I called daughter, Beth and said "...remember Grandma Nora's sewing basket?" Beth said, "The one with her name on it." Yes, someone else remembered it, too. I answered yes and asked what she thought about me painting it. She thought it was a great idea.

Now, a few hours later, I smile as I look at the basket that entered our lives in the late '60's and was always very near where my mother sat. It was always piled full of embroidery projects, quilt pieces and crochet thread and needle. The inside liner of the basket has faint coffee stains, where grandchildren anxious to get into their grandma's arms, knocked a cup with "just a swallow" of coffee into it.

After painting it and adding a few touches of my own, the basket sits proudly in my craft room, just where, Nora (aka Mom) would have wanted it. Thanks for sharing a memory with me. ~Donna

Dreamin' of Summer

While sitting in the house near the warm fire it is easy to forget it is only 32 degrees outdoors. I look out the window and dream of summer and the warm days that come with it. Thinking of You

A thinking of you card for my friend, Angie. She has been on quite a journey being ill. But, is doing better and spreading her wings a little at a time.

For this card I used: Pink cardstock, brown stitched ribbon, Cricut cartridge, Home Accents, red butterfly is Recollections, the clouds are mulberry paper stamped with light blue chalk and everything else was just in my basket of embellishments.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is over for another year. I made 5 cards on Sunday afternoon for the grandchildren. They weren't anything extra special. But, one I really enjoyed making, because I used a digi stamp (FREE from Inger Harding) and that is something new for me and my new Copic markers. What do you think?

At our house we took advantage of the Valentine's Day special at Bob Evans. It was very good. This made our 37th Valentine's Day together...sweet memories. We saw several couple at Bob Evans eating that looked to have put in many more years than we have. It does the heart good to see these older couples our still enjoying each other on the day of LOVE.

Only One Day Left!

Nothing like waiting until the last minute to make Valentine cards for the darling grandchildren! Fortunately, only two need to be mailed. So, in the end, I should met the deadline. Without a plan in my head, I started scrambling for Valentine themed stamps or basically anything I could find. You see, I didn't want to have to go out in the cold to the local Wally World to buy something. Then, jackpot!! I found these cute digi stamps I had downloaded around Christmas and wah-laa there were some really cute files for Valentine's Day.

Be Mine

This is Granddaughter, Katelyn's, Valentine's Day card. At 4, she really believes she is a "princess" and loves all things that go with being a princess!

The crown, I designed and cut by hand (but you could probably tell that). The stickers were some I'd had for a while and the hearts and stars are again just some old stickers that were on hand. The heart I cut using a .svg file found at Wanda's.

Birthday Wishes

Birthdays, birthdays...every one has one! I try to keep birthday cards on hand, but generally at the last minute I'm scrambling to throw something together. For this card I cut the scroll-y flourish from Cricut cartridge, Home Accents. Gotta love those flourishes! The flowers were Cricut cut and the centers are just circles cut from a paper punch. I tried along the left side to do some rubberstamping. Stamping is still a challenge for me, but try, try again is my motto!

Paper Flowers

Paper flowers seem to be everywhere! And, no wonder...they are fun and easy to make. Children can help and have fun doing it! You can use any embellishments you have on hand, brads, beads, rhinestones, grommets, epoxy sticker, buttons...and the list goes on and on! I recently started "reorganizing" my small craft room and the paper flowers make it so much more cheerful.

I make them by cutting 1/3 of a 12x12" piece of paper. Then fold the paper in half long ways. Make a 1/4" fold and continue alternating folding up and down, until it looks like an accordion. Then using an awl (or other tool that will make a small hole) find the center crease you made when starting. Make two holes close together. Then using a large needle and thread, run the thread through the holes, just a couple times (like sewing a button) and tie off. Don't pull your thread to tight or you will tear the paper. You can now cut the ends into a nice curve or leave them straight. I use ink and ink the ends. Then unfold and secure the 2 sides with quick drying glue or a hot glue gun. You can then attach the flower to a wooden barbeque stick. I wrapped the sticks with floral tape and added silk leaves to some. You can make smaller flowers and add to the center, using the same instructions. Flowers can be used on cards, gifts, in flower pots...anywhere you want to add some color!Have fun!

All Occasion Card

Happiness Always...isn't that the most wonderful thing we could wish for anyone! Love that sentiment. Brown and pink are two of my faves together. Got some of my decorative scissors out that hadn't been used in a while and had fun with this card.

Hello-As I've said before, I don't have many rubber stamps. For this card I wanted some leaves and fortunately one of my Cricut cartridges had leaves. I used them as a stencil! Oh! If only I lived closer to a craft store.

Strawberry Shortcake Birthday

While there isn't anything very spectacular about the Birthday card I've made. The little girl who is going to receive it, is very spectacular! Our only granddaughter, Nora Katelyn, will celebrate her 3rd birthday tomorrow.
She is such an absolute delight...I'm like every grandparent-I think mine couldn't be anymore special!

I wanted to share this card, along with a scrapbook page I made in 2000. The scrapbook was made as a gift for my mom on Mother's Day. One of the pictures scrapbooked was of my mom and her sister in homemade dresses with big strawberries on the pockets. I included a copy of the scrapbook page with Nora Katelyn's card, with some family history written along with it.

Mother's Day

Here is a Mother's Day card, I made last night for a dear friend at church. My mother died 4 yrs ago and my mother-in-law last Mother's Day. Making cards for others is part of the joy of making cards!

I'm sorry this card looks so flat. I had to scan it (another church friend is using my camera for prom).

To make it I used tan card stock and used a white floral background paper from amscan*. The flowers are silk flowers from the Dollar Store. I cut them down a bit to fit the card, which is about 51/2"x5 1/2" The leaves are cut from the Cricut Home
Accents cartridge. The ribbon is a piece of crochet thread. The scallop edge is from an .SVG file from Wanda's Crafts.

Birthday

Here is a card I made sometime back for my oldest daughter's birthday. The flowers and flourishes were cut with the Cricut. I folded and embossed the card and stamped with pink ink around the edges.


I was able to hand deliver it...it would have been hard to have kept the flower from being crushed otherwise. However, I think if you cut the end from an empty paper towel or toilet tissue roll and put it around the flower and send it in bubble wrap envelope.
Hope everyone is having a good week. I'm excited...our little 3 yr old granddaughter is going to come for a visit tomorrow and stay all night. We will have a lot of fun! Have a great weekend. -Donna

All Occasion Card

Hello...it has been a few days since I've blogged anything, but sometimes you need a break. Yesterday, I started out making a card and didn't really have anything in mind when I started. Ever have days like that?

So, I just started putting things together and came up with this shabby kinda card. My husband looked at it and didn't say anything...and I said, "Are you speechless." To which like any good husband would reply he said, "I looks really good." Way to go buddy!

All Occasion Card

I could easily see this as a Get Well, Hello, Birthday or Mother's Day card. It is going to be a Get Well card for my use. The side scroll is an .svg file I found at Wandas Crafts . The paper from K&Company, I've had for years, you know the kind you keep for just the right occasion! Well, the occasion finally arose to use it. I stamped the side scroll lightly with MS Stem Green ink. The daisy is an .svg file and the very center of it is syrofoam ball shavings colored with brown ink and water. To get stryofoam shavings just rub two strofoam balls together. Excellent for snow. That's all I have for you today. Thanks for spending some time with me.
